The Barbara and Sandford Cohen Graduate Scholarship
The Barbara and Sanford Cohen Graduate Scholarship is for a School of Education graduate student in a program
leading to certification as a public school teacher of Science or Mathematics, who is committed to teaching in grades
7 – 12.
They should also be committed to encouraging students who are under-represented by gender, race, nationality, or religion
in professions requiring STEM skills.
Preference will be given to individuals who are the first member of their family to attend graduate school, and/or have a
demonstrated interest or ability in science or mathematics.
Barbara and Sanford Cohen believed that all people should be treated with dignity and respect regardless of their religion,
national origin, ancestry, gender, or race. Candidates must submit an essay demonstrating their shared interest and
commitment to this ideal (250-500 words).
Criteria:
- Be enrolled in a School of Education Mathematics Education or Science Education program leading to certification
- Demonstrate financial need
- Be in good academic standing
- Demonstrate good character
