Susan Knopf Kinoy Social Justice Prize
The Susan Knopf Kinoy Social Justice Prize is in memory of native New Yorker, Susan Knopf Kinoy, MSW, a committed social activist, union and community organizer, and co-founder of La Clinica del Pueblo medical facility serving undocumented patients in Washington, DC. She regularly traveled from DC to NYC to co-teach a Community Organizing course at CWE. It is awarded to a student who gives evidence of actively working or volunteering for a progressive social justice organization or movement. Some examples might be: Black Lives Matter, immigration/asylum reform, anti-gentrification, Poor People’s Campaign, peace, anti-poverty or housing justice. Priority will be given to a student whose plans include graduate school in social work, law or public health.
Students are required to write a 300-word essay that:
• Highlights their involvement in local or international progressive initiatives
• Provides insight into the social determinants of adversity and poverty
• Inspires others to take positive action and explains how they are leading by example.
