The Maria Bournas Student Fellowship

The Maria Bournas Student Fellowship provides a stipend of $1000 to a single student to support either tuition or expenses associated with attending City College.

Selection Criteria:

  • A student majoring in Humanities & Arts (with a preference for an English major)
  • Student must have demonstrated exceptional facility in both written and spoken English
  • Student has demonstrated an interest in supporting other students who are English Language Learners
  • Student must have a minimum 3.3 GPA
  • Applications require nomination by a faculty member and a letter of interest from the applicant detailing why they are interested in this Fellowship

Fellowship Criteria:

  • The Fellowship recipient will work with the English as a Second Language (ESL) coordinator or with another faculty member designated by the Dean of Humanities & the Arts as a peer tutor to provide students with additional practice in spoken and/or written English.
  • The number of hours of service will not exceed fifteen (15) and will be conducted during the Spring 2026 semester
  • The fellowship will be awarded by the Dean of Humanities & the Arts
  • Nominations and applications will be considered on a rolling basis.
