The Paper Endowed Scholarship Fund for Social Justice

The Paper Scholarship for Social Justice celebrates the legacy of The Paper (formerly Tech News), the historic student publication founded at City College in 1970 to tell stories that would otherwise remain untold. This scholarship supports Humanities students committed to social justice, civic leadership, and community engagement, offering financial assistance for coursework, internships, or projects that make a positive impact.

Finalists must be available for a Zoom interview and demonstrate exceptional communication skills through the clarity and quality of their submitted materials.

Eligibility Requirements:

• The scholarship is open to all undergraduate students enrolled in the Division of Humanities and the Arts at CCNY who demonstrate strong academic performance and a sustained commitment to social justice.
• Applicants must be enrolled part- or full-time for a minimum of six (6) credits, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and remain enrolled during the semester the award is granted.

Application Process:
A resume and a personally written essay of at least 1,000 words (single-spaced, Arial Narrow 11-point font) describing their engagement with or commitment to social justice, community empowerment, journalism, media, human rights, gender equality, education, environmental justice, or related fields connected to civic leadership.

Alternatively, applicants may submit a video or digital multimedia presentation highlighting their work and participation in social justice initiatives or coursework.
