Mark A. Stoler
Mark A. Stoler is Professor Emeritus of History at the University of Vermont, where he taught from 1970 until his retirement in 2007. He specializes in U.S. diplomatic and military history, particularly during World War II. Stoler received his Ph.D. in history from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1971, following a B.A. from the City College of New York. Over the course of his career, he authored or edited twelve books, including Allies and Adversaries, The Politics of the Second Front, and George C. Marshall: Soldier-Statesman of the American Century. He also served as editor of the George C. Marshall Papers.
In addition to his work at UVM, Stoler held visiting positions at the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval War College, and the University of Haifa. He served as president of the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations and as a trustee of the Society for Military History. His teaching and scholarship have earned multiple honors, including the University Scholar Award and several teaching awards from the University of Vermont, as well as the Distinguished Book Award from the Society for Military History.
